■Research background    Research background
(1)Stayed in Burma as a Japanese state scholor from October 1985 to October 1987: attended special Burmese courses for foreign students at Institute of Foreign Languages (IFL, Rangoon), read documents at Defense Services Historical Research Institute(DSHRI, Rangoon), conducted interviews towards ex-nationalist leaders and activists inside the country.

■Status of education and research activities    Status of activities
 After conducting researches at the Research Institute for Languages and Cultures of Asia and Africa (Tokyo University of Foreign Studies)for 18 years, I moved to Sophia University on 1st April 2007. My research topics up to now can be classified into three categories:
(1) Historical development of Burmese Nationalism during the British colonial period
(2) Political changes and continuities of Burma during the Japanese military occupation (especially Burma's political attitudes towards Britain and Japan)
(3) Post-war politics of Burma (including analyses of present politics under military regime)

At Sophia University, I teach the following courses:
(1) Introduction to History of Southeast Asia (lecture)
(2) Modern History of Southeast Asia (lecture)
(3) Political thoughts of Southeast Asia (lecture and seminar)
(4) Southeast Asia: Area Studies (seminar)
(5) Elementary Burmese (language teaching)
(6) Political History of Southeast Asia (seminar for Graduate School of Area Studies)
